Student Recruitment Policy and Procedure

Student Recruitment Policy and Procedure

Admission is the overall process of disseminating course and college information, selecting, recruiting and enrolling students onto a course of study at Portsmouth International College. The process requires various checks at intervals to ensure that students are enrolled onto the most appropriate course and academic level.

In the first instance it is very important for students to make a decision based on the course information, the progression opportunities and career paths they wish to pursue. Information is made available for the potential students.

This Policy complies with chapter B2 of the UK Quality Code and should be read in conjunction with the recognition of prior learning policy. It should also be considered alongside the Pre-admission checklist and guidance.

Recruitment:
The College will recruit learners with integrity and ensure that the correct information is available for students to make informed choices in relation to the courses that they choose. The College may hold open days to give potential students information about the courses on offer, the College Prospectus, entry requirements as stipulated by the awarding body and show progression routes.

Potential Students are able to access information via the College website, telephone and also by attending the College in person. The College will assist all potential students in the process to gain entry onto an appropriate course at a level that is suitable them.

The College will recruit students who are of a minimum of 18 years of age. The individual must also be legally residing in the UK and able to commence a course of study with no restrictions. In the first instance potential students would be required to complete the College application form. The application must be completed in full. If there are omissions this will delay the admission process.

Once the completed application has been received with the required documents and evidence, the information will be scrutinised by the admissions team. There are processes in place to determine the quality of the application and recruitment of the potential student begins at this stage.

Pre- Admission:

The pre-admission process will check all previous qualifications and professional qualifications and make checks on all evidence provided. As well as this the process will engage with the potential student through a formal interview to ascertain their goals, aspirations and intention to study.

The interview would look at their intention and ability to successfully achieve the qualification. All courses require an appropriate level of English to enable them to access relevant resources to complete the required course work/assignment.

The College may take into account any prior learning for learners who have other academic / professional qualifications or relevant experience. Potential students would need to provide evidence of any prior learning this can be discussed further at the interview. The student would be made aware of the most appropriate course for them and the routes of progression for their chosen course.
Assessment test:

In addition to an interview with a staff member the College may set an internal entry assessment test for some courses. This will be conducted if the student cannot provide enough evidence of previous learning, if their ability to complete the course at the chosen level is uncertain, or if there are concerns about their level of English language competency.

Potential students will be given a date to sit the assessment testing prior to a final decision being made on their application; they would need to obtain a pass in order to be considered for a place on the course.

The college interview process would also determine any additional needs that the student may have. These would be declared at the recruitment stage and options for any reasonable adjustments will be considered. If a prospective student has additional needs and or disabilities they would need to attend a further meeting with the Welfare Officer to discuss their needs in detail.

The final decision to offer a place on a course will be made based on the completed application form, evidence of previous qualifications, the assessment test (if required) and the overall outcome of the interview process. Students accepted for admission will be sent an offer letter.
