About the Business

London House prides itself on its friendly English teachers and staff. All our teachers have a minimum of a Cambridge Certificate (CELTA) or Trinity Certificate (TESOL), some have a Cambridge Diploma (DELTA). Some teachers are also examiners and assessors for Cambridge Assessment. In the summer we also have teachers with QTS qualifications which is a required qualification standard for teaching in English schools in England.

Our English teachers are enthusiastic about teaching English and try to use as many different teaching methods as they can to make your English learning experience fun and varied. They keep up-to-date with modern English Language teaching techniques by attending courses and in-house workshops.

London House is commited to maintaining and improving standards both in and out of the classroom. Training and development is a continuous process, which the management and all staff take part in. In particular, our teachers are actively encouraged to update their own skills enabling them to develop professionally and personally.

Overview of English Courses

Overview of English Courses

We offer short and long courses throughout the year. Classes are multi-national and small, with a maximum class size of 12 in the winter and a maximum of 15 in the summer. We cater for all levels from beginner to advanced. We offer courses for adults as well as junior vacation courses for students aged 12-17 and special one week school group courses.

1: General English:

These courses provide a balanced programme designed to develop your speaking, reading, listening and writing skills and your ability to use everyday English. This is done by using a variety of different methods in the classroom. There are 17.5 hours tuition each week from 9am - 1pm Monday to Friday. Start any Monday.

2: Intensive English Courses:

This covers the same areas as the General English course but there are 24.5 hours tuition each week from 9am - 1pm Monday to Friday and from 2:15 - 4pm on four afternoons each week. Between September and May there are no lessons on Friday afternoons, between June and the end of August there are no lessons on Thursday afternoons. This is when social activities or half day trips are organised. Afternoon lessons pay particular attention to communication and aim to increase your fluency. There are also fewer students in the afternoon so classes are usually smaller. Start any Monday.

3: One to One Tuition:

If you would like to have an intensive course where you are the only student, this can be arranged. One popular combination is for Students to attend a General English Course in the mornings and have one to one tuition in the afternoon.

4: English Plus Courses:

On an English Plus course you can combine learning English in the morning with one other taught activity in the afternoon. The options available are varied including exam preparation, intensive English, Sports, reflexology and many other study skills. These courses need to be booked in advance so that we can arrange a suitable tutor for you. Course fees will depend on the additional activity chosen.

5: Groups and mini Groups:

We offer very competetive rates for groups.

6: Business English Courses:

These are specialised courses for people who need Business English for work or study purposes. They focus on grammar, vocabulary and English for business situations and will look at developing writing and communication skills such as presentations and letter writing. Courses begin at fixed times throughout the year and are available for adult students only.

7: Exam Courses:

Cambridge Exam Courses are available throughout the year at various levels. IELTS courses available.
