About the Business

I am a qualified teacher of Modern Languages and former Head of Department with 16 years' experience in secondary schools, further education and sixth form colleges. I hold a B.A. (Hons) in European Studies (French and Spanish) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Bath.

In 2003 I became a self-employed language tutor, teaching French and Spanish from beginner to degree level. I provide classes for leisure or holiday purposes, tuition for families moving to France or Spain, exam coaching for students at GCSE, AS and A level, and language training for businesses.

There are many advantages to private tuition compared with college-based learning: tuition is tailor-made to suit the needs of individual students using appropriate materials; the time and duration of lessons can be adapted to accommodate students with irregular work patterns; there are clearly more opportunities to practise the language on a 1-1 or small group basis, and all ages are welcome.

I am also able to translate French and Spanish into English and vice versa for businesses and private individuals at very competitive rates. Work is supplied in Word format and emailed to the customer on completion.

Spanish Tuition & Translation

Spanish Tuition & Translation

Spanish is the third most widely spoken language in the world with some 400 million speakers, and is the official first language of 22 countries. More than 15 million British tourists visit Spain and Spanish-speaking countries every year, and knowing the language makes your holiday easier and more enjoyable. Many British people own properties in Spain and find it extremely useful, and sometimes essential, to be able to speak Spanish.

I offer Spanish tuition to students of all ages and levels, from beginners to University standard. Tuition is tailor-made for the student, whether the preference is for general conversation, specific topics (such as business), grammar or a combination of these. Coaching for the GCSE, AS and A level(A2) exams is available at any time of year. Tuition can be tailored to the exam board in question, and help with exam technique is provided by means of past examination papers.

A minimum of 1 hour per lesson is advisable for adults. Longer sessions may be recommended for more advanced students or those who wish to progress more quickly. Half hour lessons may be preferable for young children. Lessons are usually on a weekly basis but other arrangements may be possible.

Tuition can be individual or in groups and lessons are held in Leyland or Darwen. Home or work visits may also be possible, subject to availability. For individuals, the first lesson costs £30 and subsequent lessons are charged at this rate if booked in blocks of 4 hours or more. Single lessons are charged at £32 per hour. Rates for groups can be supplied on request.

I also offer a translation service. This is charged at £0.10 per word (Spanish-English) and £0.12 per word (English-Spanish), with a minimum charge of £25. Translation work is returned to the customer by email, as a typed Word document. It is assumed that you will attend lessons as arranged. There is no charge for lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations within 24 hours of the lesson may be charged for.

French Tuition & Translation

French Tuition & Translation

France is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with over 60 million visitors per year. The British make up a large proportion of these visitors, but many French people do not speak English, especially in the more rural areas, making a knowledge of the language important, and for those with properties in France, it is essential to be able to converse with officials, tradesmen and neighbours.

I offer French tuition to students of all ages and levels, from beginners to University standard. Tuition is tailor-made for the student, whether the preference is for general conversation, specific topics (such as business), grammar or a combination of these.
